MakCHS - Uganda
The Global Health partnership between the Makerere University College of Health Sciences (MakCHS) and Nuvance Health (Formerly Western Connecticut Health Network)/University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine (NH/UVMLCOM) and was founded in 2012 with the aim of establishing a mutually beneficial and sustainable relationship between NH/UVMLCOM and ACCESS in terms of sharing knowledge, culture, experience and resources in primary care and nursing fields and beyond.
About MakCHS
MakCHS is affiliated to the Makerere University, the oldest university in Uganda. The college was created by the university in 2007 and is located at the Mulago hill within the Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital complex. It is the oldest medical training University unit in East Africa. It has been in the business of training medical and health professionals for over 80 years. This history has earned it the enviable position of ‘crème la crème’ in Uganda and the East and Central African region. The goal of the university is to improve the health of the people of Uganda through innovative teaching, research and provision of services responsive to societal needs. The Mulago hospital is a teaching hospital of MakCHS and has an official capacity of 1,790 beds, however, it often hosts patients twice than its capacity.
About Kampala, Uganda
Kampala is the capital city of Uganda, bordered to the south by Lake Victoria. The population is estimated to be over two million, making it the largest city in Uganda. Mulago Hopsital has over 1500 beds and is the largest public hospital in the country.
